Has anyone had an IUI with sucsess withotu having a HSG test?

I went and seen my doctor today and had an ultrasound done he said that my uterus it tilted down and I have a few cysts he also said that he thinks I have PCOS. But shows that I am capable of producing many eggs. He wants to do a HSG test before we do out IUI. My question is is this test really necessary? I am paying for everything out of pocket and this is a big expense. Has anyone had success with an IUI with out this test?
